A REMINDER THAT PROFIT ISN'T EVERYTHING . VOLUNTEERS
OUR COMMUNITY OF VOLUNTEERS COME FROM ALL WALKS OF LIFE
More and more schools, community organisations, companies and individuals are becoming involved in knitting and crafting Wraps, providing transport and freight, or supplying us with yarn, and for this we thank you.
LET US KNOW
If you would like others in the community to know where you meet, let us know - we can add you to our knitting group venue list.
2010 WAREHOUSE REPORT
Assembling Wraps from squares received at our Alexandria warehouse
WOW! What a year we have had in the Warehouse with approximately 37,000 Wraps sent to various places throughout Australia and the rest of the World. (see 2009 distribution)
That, however, still does not stop people from asking me when I say I'm a volunteer with Wrap with Love, 'Do you go in there and knit all day?' So, I have decided to describe what we do in a 'Day at the WWL Warehouse'.
Firstly, we all arrive around 10am (some have travelled for more than an hour or two). We unwrap and write any parcels/boxes that have arrived into the register book. These wraps/quilts are then checked for WWL labels and any without are taken inside for a label to be sewn on.
We then take a huge yellow plastic bag which has been kindly donated to us and stick a label onto it which has the name of WWL and our address plus the receiver's name and the destination of that particular bag. We fold and pack our bag which takes 10 wraps and then we seal and tape each bag. Our bag is then numbered from our dispatch list and also include the details of the bag i.e. quilts etc. Each bag weighs approx. 10 kg and is lifted into its resting place until it is picked up by the Aid Agency etc. (so that day we don't need to go to the gym as we do our weight lifting there).
In the meantime, someone has arrived at the warehouse with a car load of wraps or maybe a truck has arrived and we help them unpack or pack and of course we have a chat about the destination we are packing for at the time.
We pack up to 800 wraps on any given day.
Our days are very busy and we all sleep well that night but the friendship and the satisfaction outweighs the tiredness every time.

STORIES
We always enjoy hearing stories that come back from the people we have been able to help as well as from our volunteers. Please share your stories with us.
As a non profit organisation, the loving time and materials contributed by our volunteers is not only worth its weight in Gross Domestic Product, but it also provides buckets of enthusiasm and inspiration for us.
