Huon pine box with acrylic lid handmade by Brian Dawson. Trying to think outside the box, I decided to make one with sides projecting both inward and outward. In order to emphasise the curves and projections I painted the edges in contrasting colours. I then realised that, with a conventional lid on, the inside could not be seen. This led to me deciding to make an acrylic lid, something I had never attempted before
I had to learn new techniques to work the acrylic so there was much experimentation before I finally was satisfied with the result. The curvy design of the lid mimics the box sides. I entered the box in the Australian Wood Review “Maker of the Year” last year competition not expecting anything much but was pleased to achieve “commended" status.
Size: 230 x 230 x 220 mm
Care: The finish of the wood is Livos Natural Oil Sealer . An occasional wipe with a soft duster should keep it looking fresh
