Alfresco Studio and Succulents, Lindfield NSW. Oil crayon collage on artboard, sealed with archival varnish (signed, & with d rings and hanger). This collage is inspired by visits to members’ studios…this one is of Gillian’s studio in Lindfield full of handmade ceramics. Jan was attracted to the work table on the verandah looking to the garden with ceramic pots full of succulents.
Jan documents her explorations in travel diaries, drawing and collaging en plein air and uses these sketches to work up her collages in her Sydney studio. The collages are made using oil crayons on coloured papers which are torn or scored into shapes, pasted on art board and sealed with varnish. The thick dense crayon plays with the torn edges of the coloured papers.
