Katherine Mahoney Ceramics

Katherine Mahoney is a full time professional potter living and working in St Ives on the land of the Darramurgal people.
Katherine began an apprenticeship at Cranbrook Station Pottery, in the UK in 1974 before opening her own studio with her brother Duncan. Later, she moved to Hong Kong and became immersed in the rich history of Asian ceramics. She began exhibiting one off pieces and gaining an international reputation for her work. Katherine taught the Higher Diploma in Ceramics at the HK Polytechnic and at other locations . Katherine is proud to be a founder of the Contemporary Ceramics Society HK and lobbied hard for ceramics to be a category for competitions and exhibitions at major venues like the HK Museum of Art
Since moving to Sydney in the nineties, Katherine has continued to make one-off, wheel-thrown pieces, alongside more sculptural forms for restaurants, designers and galleries.
Katherine's loves working with chefs and enjoys the challenges that brings. Lately she is exploring the use of WildClay in her practice.
"Ceramics is a medium that is tactile and delicate: an internal contradiction, both fragile and durable".’
